How do WorkSafe and Randstad work together during the recruitment process?
Randstad and WorkSafe have been working together to recruit health and safety inspectors since 2016 and have recruited 10 cohorts over that time. Randstad manages applications from when you apply, all the way through to the Assessment Centre. At this point, you will get to meet with WorkSafe. Following the Assessment Centre, Randstad will complete your references (if you are successful) and other pre-employment checks. Randstad will also provide you with your outcome.

If I have questions about the recruitment process, who should I contact?
Randstad’s role is to support you through your recruitment journey and be your point of contact. If you have any questions specific to WorkSafe, we can answer these for you or get the information that you require. In the first instance, please email us at worksafenz@randstad.co.nz or call our team on 09 336 0345.

I have not had any contact from Randstad regarding my application, when will someone get in touch with me?
After you have applied for the role you will receive an email from Randstad within three working days. Please ensure that you check your junk inbox as sometimes our emails can end up there. Through the recruitment process, it is normally a good idea to check your emails regularly as our recruitment process has a number of different stages and often short time-frames to complete each stage.
-
Why is the recruitment process so long?
Working for WorkSafe is of interest to a lot of people, which is why we receive a very large number of applications (usually 500 - 1000+ applications each cohort). The recruitment process is designed to ensure that we consider all applications and are able to find the right candidates for these positions. Each stage of the process is designed to assess important skills which are required for the role at WorkSafe.
-
I have missed the cut off for applications, can my application still be considered? or I have missed one of the deadlines according to the timeline, can I still continue with my application?
As you can see from the recruitment timeline which has been provided to you, there are a number of stages which make up the recruitment process. This is to ensure that the process moves smoothly for candidates and that you receive outcomes on dates advised. Therefore, it is really important to complete tasks in the process in the timeframe provided so as to not delay the process.
However, we do understand that there can be things out of your control. If you are unable to complete any of the stages due to unexpected circumstances, please let us know as soon as possible (ideally before the cut off of that stage) by emailing us at worksafenz@randstad.co.nz.

I would really love to work for WorkSafe, however the start date does not work for me. Can I start a week or two later?
WorkSafe provides full training in the classroom, online and in the field, as well as mentoring. The career pathway is the same for every trainee, regardless of prior experience. Every trainee does the same training towards being appointed as a Health and Safety Inspector and obtaining an Identity Card under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA).
The training is very structured and all trainees are expected to start training at the same time. The training will be run over a twelve week period between Wellington and your home site (refer to the training schedule), and include workshops, e-learning modules, exams and ongoing manager facilitated structured practice. Therefore, you need to be able to commit to the start date and training dates advised as they can not be made flexible due to the nature of the training required for this role.
-
I cannot make the Assessment Centre dates, can I have an interview at another time?
The Assessment Centre for WorkSafe involves an interview, roleplay, written activity and a roleplay. The Assessment Centre is planned months in advance to ensure that all candidates are assessed fairly on the day with the same assessors. Therefore, it is not possible for you to complete an interview or an Assessment Centre on a different day. If you are unable to attend the Assessment Centre dates specified, we will be unable to progress with your application for this cohort, however you would be welcome to apply again in the future.
