About the Role - Youth Mentor
Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is seeking dedicated Youth Mentors - Residential Service within their Iti Mapihi Pounamu Team. Iti Mapihi Pounamu is a 3-bed youth wellbeing whare situated on a 10-acre farm on the outskirts of Hamilton. They support wahine rangatahi who come to their whare to return home to their whānau. They work closely with them to achieve goals and encourage active learning in a safe environment.
Position details
- Monday - Sunday, (12-hour shift rostered 4 days on, 4 days off shift rotation). Please note, the role requires to work on a roster of 7.00am-7.00pm on a fortnightly rotational basis.
- $60,060.00 - $64,480.00 per year (depending of qualifications and experience, aligned with pay equity)
A day in the role
- Providing care for wahine with heightened needs and vulnerabilities
- Working one on one with wahine, and striving to connect them to their culture and get to know themselves (achieved through being active, fishing, climbing their maunga)
- Working closely with external providers
- Following procedures and policies to best support tamatāne
- Working towards getting wahine back home to whānau
- Supporting wahine with any issues they come across (mental health, addiction, family crisis etc)
We are seeking Youth Mentors who
- Pride themself on their ability to work to a whānau first, tikanga based, wellbeing approach
- Have a positive and supportive mindset in supporting our taiohi to achieve their goals and aspirations
- Have a basic understanding of te ao Māori principles (e.g. te reo and tikanga) and a willingness to learn more in this area
- Have 1-3 years working in a kaupapa Māori environment
- Have 1-3 years experience in mentoring taiohi
- Have a level 4 qualification in youth work and level 5 qualification in social services, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori or be prepared to study towards one or more of these qualifications
- Have evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19
- Have a full drivers licence
- Have proof of your right to work in New Zealand (One year minimum)
