About the Role
We are looking for a Technology Programme Manager to lead the technology delivery streams of a major transformation programme for a meaningful government department. This is a senior, influential role, working in a multi-vendor environment, overseeing complex interdependent streams that directly support the Ministry’s mission.
You'll be responsible for driving programme planning and execution, ensuring alignment with governance, financial, commercial and assurance frameworks, and delivering outcomes that matter. The role will be a 12-month contract and based in Wellington.
What You’ll Be Doing
... - Taking ownership of technology delivery across a major programme of work
- Leading cross-functional teams through complex technical change and interdependencies
- Managing risks, budgets, vendor relationships, and delivery schedules
- Ensuring alignment with technology strategy and delivery standards
- Collaborating closely with business leaders, programme teams, and Senior stakeholders
- Supporting robust change management and implementation planning
- Maintaining rigorous governance, compliance and financial reporting
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll be an experienced Technical Programme Manager with:
- Proven experience delivering large-scale, high-profile technology programmes (ideally in the public sector)
- Strong track record working in complex, multi-vendor environments
- Expertise in delivering business application systems on cloud platforms (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)
- Familiarity with hybrid environments combining modern cloud platforms and legacy systems
Strong knowledge of delivery methodologies like SAFe, Prince2, and ITIL - Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills (CE / Ministerial level), Strategic thinking and resilience under pressure
- An understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures is a distinct advantage
